STEM at Sacred Heart STEM is an essential component of everyday life at Sacred Heart STEM School (SHSS). The future of your scholars and the skills they will need to be successful over the next century will be dependent upon their academic success in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. SHSS scholars are being taught new ways to learn. They are learning by doing, learning to be creative and innovative, and they are achieving at a higher rate than we’ve seen in years. How does this translate to the classroom? Here are a few recent examples: Grade 6 investigated why a pencil looks bigger and bent when it is put in water! Do you know the answer? First grade scholars practiced the engineering and design process by creating blueprints to build their own towers to survive an "earthquake!" The Kindergarten class had fun working together to make balloon-powered cars! Third grade scholars worked in groups in the STEM lab to collaborate and communicate about natural weather disasters. Choosing Sacred Heart School to educate your scholar instead of a public, charter, independent or another Catholic school, means that you have chosen the first K-8 school in the City of Boston to have infused STEM throughout the curriculum. By blending inquiry-based learning into the curriculum, your scholar will have an educational advantage for life.
